Rishikesh

Rishikesh styles itself as the 'Yoga Capital of the World' and is a magnet for yoga practitioners and spiritual seekers. It is believed that meditation in Rishikesh brings one closer to attainment of moksha or enlightenment, as does a dip in Ganges, the holy river that flows through it.

Rishikul Yoga School

Rishikul Yoga is ideally situated in the main street of Laxman Jula, 2 minutes away from the Ganges and offers classes in the following:

Astanga Vinyasa

Astanga Vinyasa is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri. K Pattabhi Jois. This method of yoga involves synchronising the breath with a progressive series of postures - a process producing intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body and a calm mind.

Astanga vinyasa, when practiced in its correct sequential order, gradually leads the practitioner to rediscover his or her fullest potential on all levels of human consciousness - physical, psychological and spiritual. Through this practice of correct breathing (Ujjayi Pranayama), postures (asanas), gazing point (driste) and employing the bandhas (locks) we gain control of the senses and a deep awareness of ourselves. By maintaining this discipline with regularity and devotion, one acquires steadiness of body and mind. Read More

Hatha Yoga

‘Asana’ (yoga posture) is spoken of as the first part of hatha yoga. Having done asana, one attains steadiness of body and mind, freedom from disease and lightness of the limbs’. Hatha Yoga Prandipika 1:2

A classical yoga class which works very specifically on your alignment, strength and stamina. The poses are explained in detail and held for some time to encourage students to experience the benefits of the pose in its fullness. The class is good for all yoga practitioners, even beginners, as once you have mastered a posture with integrity then it becomes effortless. An uplifting and traditional style of Yoga, synchronising breath with movement and integrating awareness of alignment in asana (postures), to take you on an inner journey to encourage strength, flexibility, balance, focus, healing, freedom and grace; all levels welcome.

Pranayama

Pranayama is known as the “heart of yoga”. The word Pranayama means ‘Prana’ (life force) and ‘Ayama’ (regulation or lengthening). Pranayama is the technique of regulating the breath. Traditionally it was believed that Pranayama should be practiced by those who have many years experience of doing asanas (physical postures), however in recent years, research has shown that Pranayama can be practiced by and can benefit many people and that it offers many health and spiritual benefits. Pranayama can treat stress related disorders including anxiety, fear and depression. It increases the capacity of oxygen intake and regular practice of Pranayama can bring awareness of breath, calms the mind and provides mental clarity.

Pranayama is the key to good health and peace of mind. The practitioner is able to centre himself inwards and as a result is able to find internal peace and joy.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep or sleep with awareness is an ancient practice that is rapidly gaining popularity in the West. It is intended to induce full-body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness. Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of complete relaxation, holistically addressing our physiological, neurological, and subconscious needs."
